When I was a college student in Philadelphia, I used to love going to 30th Street Station — the main transit and commuter hub in the city. Still new to living in the Northeast, it was so exciting to see how easy it was to hop a train a couple hours to New York, or a couple hours to DC. And delivering all that real-time info was one of those giant, analog, clickety-clackety information boards that updated the train departure status and rail assignment. You might know how mesmerizing those can be. As it updates from left-to-right, top-to-bottom, it goes from completely illegible to a perfectly clear source of truth, in a matter of seconds. I wrapped up another Intellectual Headshot sprint with a client this morning and zooming out at our Miro board from the last couple weeks, it reminded me of that old-school departure board. At the top, it’s looks like some jumbled mess. A lot of random stickies from our first discovery session. Then row-by-row, the output starts to come into focus. We refined the Headshots that were working. Tossed the ones that weren’t. Added some new ones that were inspired by our ongoing conversations. And ultimately, we landed on five crisp visuals that articulated my client’s overarching POVs on his domain, his positioning, his value and his service model. Now those 5 visuals can serve as an information board for his prospects. Telegraphing his relevant expertise instantly, and well before a prospect call. Setting up a deeper conversation for both sides once he does speak to them live. How are your prospects learning about your expertise? If you’re leaning on winging it verbally on the first call, you risk dishing out a jumbled mess. But through some iterative, visual distillation, you can paint a clearer picture. Without saying anything at all. 💡 -Wes P.S. Learn more about my 2-week 1:1 Headshot sprint here. TLDR: I ask questions. You talk. I design. You review. One more August start is available, and September is now open for booking. |
