đź’ˇ A 'Clear'-er example

So Barbie might be an extreme example of durable, lucrative IP.

Perhaps a few steps closer to home is James Clear.

As a former collegiate baseball player, he took what he knew about mindset and high-performance into a career in coaching for athletes and executives.

Bolstered by insights from his work as a coach, he started writing a weekly newsletter. (His early IP.)

This led to research and the bestselling book Atomic Habits, which outlines a 4-part framework of establishing habits. (His signature IP.)

Now from the success of the book, he’s launched:

  • high-ticket speaking engagements
  • a MasterClass breaking down his framework
  • physical products supporting habit-building
  • an app for developing habits

James’s success is certainly exceptional (i.e. you can make a extremely comfortable living without hitting James Clear-level status), but it follows the same progression as the Consultant’s Expertise Loop.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience → Insights → IP → Products & Services.

And notice where his inflection point was...

His IP.
