💡 A+ Example: Positioning perfection in 9 words

I don’t typically gush over a stranger’s positioning and LinkedIn approach, but I’ve been getting served one consultant’s videos recently, and honestly, I think she’s knocking it out of the park.

Her name is Kerry Barrett, a former news anchor turned on-camera coach.

Do yourself a favor and watch just one of her many 1-minute vids and I’ll break it down.

Note: I don’t know Kerry, and she doesn’t know I’m writing this, but I did reach out to congratulate her on a job well done.

First, I’ll talk about why her videos stand out from the crowd:

  • She leans into her most comfortable medium (for her, it’s video, which makes sense)
  • She doesn’t make it about her or her (impressive) background
  • Instead, she leads with actionable insights you can apply right away
  • She stays on message - no gimmicks, no kitsch, no hookbait
  • She demonstrates her expertise, giving a preview of what you’d get by hiring her
  • She closes with a clear low-effort CTA - “Give me a follow.”
  • She posts new videos often to drive awareness, attribution and retention

This is a simple but effective micro-playbook we could all customize and emulate, myself included.

But beyond her LinkedIn videos, I want to break down her positioning statement because it’s really quite remarkable:

At the end of her video, after sharing her insights, she says simply:

“I’m Kerry - I turn video-shy lawyers into video-confident lawyers.”

Boom.

Why is this so effective?

Not just the statement but the chosen market position itself.

  • She’s taken her unique skill from being a news anchor…
  • Then found a widespread, painful problem in the market…
  • That aligns with where her skill can add tremendous value
  • She then picked a tiny slice out of that broad servable market...
  • To pursue as her decisive ‘A-side’ niche
  • And she sums it all up in a concise statement
  • That takes you from problem to solution in 9 words.

I ask you:

  • Do you have any doubt about what problem she helps people with? Probably not.
  • Does she seem at all concerned about serving a narrow corner of a huge market? Not a bit.
  • Does her chosen niche make her more memorable than all the other LinkedIn coaches out there? You bet.
  • Would you reach out to her if you need on-camera help even if you’re not a lawyer? Probably so.

To sum up:

✅ Insights-first approach.

✅ Crystal clear content execution.

✅ Bold, decisive market position.

✅ Articulate message.

✅ Memorable niche.

I bottle consultants' ‘secret sauce’ for a living, and I can’t think of anything I could help her do better.

Or as the kids say: 10/10, no notes.

P.S. Yesterday I announced a new 'IP Builder' pilot kicking off in April!

The gist: Three 1:1 sessions over two weeks to translate your unique expertise into an Insights Portfolio (IP) of visual assets you can use to induce lightbulb-moments in your prospects and convert them to clients.

I already have more folks interested than slots, but you can still join the list in case anyone declines as I start onboarding & scheduling.

Note: this is a paid pilot at a reduced-price in exchange for feedback and an optional testimonial. I'll be offering slots in the order of sign-ups.
