đź’ˇ Break the corporate cycle

When taking that plunge from corporate to consulting, there are two basic questions to answer to shape your offer:

  • What do I do?
  • Who do I do it for?

You might not be sure exactly where the opportunity is, so it’s tempting to take a wide-net approach.

When you tackle these questions with that wide net, the answers usually translate as:

  • I do bunch of different things
  • For a few types of different people

When that doesn’t stick, it goes even more extreme:

  • I do whatever’s most needed
  • For anyone who will pay me

You probably wouldn’t even take such a loose approach to a full-time job search.

So now, you’ve gone from...

...taking the risk and stepping out of the corporate shackles, free to monetize your expertise in whatever manner you desire…

To yet again, being just another hired hand at the mercy of the market.

Specialization can seem limiting in the short run, but it is the only way to break the cycle.

And if you're not going to break the cycle, why take the risk?
