đź’ˇ Building your "reel"

Remember these? Introduced in 1939, the View-Master was initially conceived as an alternative to the postcard.

The concept: a simple “reel” of seven frames could transport someone to places they’ve never been.

The gadget, whose brand once had name recognition of 65% of the world’s population (!!), evolved into an adult learning tool, then a children’s toy.

Even today, the nostalgic system has seen a minor resurgence as a kitschy way to present dessert menus or promote real estate listings.

As quaint and low-tech as the toy may seem to us now, a consultant’s core job is not much different, particularly in marketing and sales conversations:

  • Your clients are in the dark—experiencing a big, messy problem.
  • You’ve been through it before and have developed a unique POV, or “reel”
  • You play them the reel, showing what relief looks like and how to get there
  • They can now see the solution, with you as the key enabler

The story in that reel is uniquely yours — your intellectual property.

What are the few frames you would use to share your POV?
