Thereās a new episode of 99% Invisible out this week about how the US legal system deals with emoji. Some lawyers submit them as evidence. Some will challenge them as up for interpretation. Some judges, on principle, ignore them altogether. One of the main examples is a contract dispute over whether a š represented āI received itā or āI accept.ā Some grey area, certainly, but the episode poses an exploration on why we use them in the first place.
