It’s 10pm. It’s that hour of the wedding reception… The formalities are done… The open bar has been flowing… The dancing is underway… The DJ is hitting their groove… …following up The Electric Slide with some solid 2000s-era hits. The inevitable dance circle starts to form. Most will remain on that periphery, nervous to be pushed into the middle. But we’re all in place, and someone’s gotta take center stage. So, the more gregarious personalities take turns for their time in the limelight. Each gets 15 seconds of fame, busting a short set of sometimes-polished, sometimes-cringy moves. And in return, they get celebrated, their name chanted, and high-fives once it’s all done. The rest of us are delighted and amused by the self-appointed jesters of the dance floor. Spared the embarrassment of taking on the role ourselves. But many will quietly wonder, ‘If only I had the confidence to do that…’ Putting your expertise out into the world can be a scary dance circle. And if you’re like most, you’ll remain a spectator. Cheering on others as they take that seemingly daunting risk. But an ounce of courage can return an outsized impact. For you, and for the other guests at the party. Do it for you. Do it for them. And have some fun while you’re at it. 🕺 💃 💡 -Wes |
