When a consultant comes to me curious about turning their expertise visual, they typically have some shiny assets in mind:

  • A glossy pitch deck
  • A scroll-stopping carousel
  • A signature framework for proposals and presentations

These are all visuals I enjoy creating with clients, but that’s not where we start.

Just like making a movie, a director might have a few iconic scenes in mind:

  • Gorgeous panoramas
  • An memorable meet-cute
  • A jaw-dropping action sequence
  • An unforgettable climax

But a movie isn’t a collection of scenes. It’s a well-crafted story.

Your business is no different.

Which is why the first step with each of my clients is a deep extraction of what I call your “Narrative Spine.”

It’s the tight articulation of:

  • Your ideal client
  • The pain their experiencing
  • The underlying problem driving that pain
  • Your unique view on that problem in your domain
  • And your path to solution

In sterile marketing terms, this is your market position, but it’s, in itself, a story.

Once that Spine is nailed down, you can tell your story in so many ways.

Crisp visual assets are one way, and that’s what I mainly help with.

But my clients go on to use this Narrative Spine as the internalized arc for:

  • the case studies they write
  • the proposal decks they build
  • even how they introduce themselves at events or online

Put simply, once you have your Narrative Spine aligned, you know how to talk about your business.

Visually, verbally, and everything in between.

That’s why I’m testing out the Narrative Spine X-Ray.

It’s essentially the first session of my flagship 1:1 Headshots sprint, but split out on its own.

How it works:

  1. You fill out a short pre-sprint worksheet
  2. We do a 90-minute one-on-one deep dive to get your story on the table
  3. I build your Narrative Spine Brief and we review it in a 30-min follow-up

What you leave with:

  • A crisp document and cheat-sheet for how you talk about your business
  • My recommendations with how you could translate your Spine into visuals
  • We can continue with visualizations together (crediting the cost of the X-Ray), or you can take the Brief and continue on your own

Either way, you're out of the mud with a clear lens on your business.
