💡 Remember why you left...

Whether your exit from your last corporate job was voluntary or not, your decision to leave corporate altogether is self-driven.

As you move forward, remember why you left.

  • Was it bureaucracy? Politics? Favoritism?
  • Underutilization of your skills? Slowed personal development?
  • Tension over project assignments? Promotions? Pay?

List these things out.

Not to dwell on the past. But rather, to design them out of your future.

I’ll go first.

I left:

  • Relentless title and promotion-chasing
  • ‘Green-light’ syndrome — feeling like I needed to be online constantly
  • Too many cooks in the kitchen
  • Mismatch between my compensation and my added value

So I’ve designed a path where:

  • My self-worth comes from client results, not my assigned level
  • I set the windows for client and sales meetings, and use WhatsApp instead of Slack!
  • I serve clients with a single decision-maker (i.e. 1:1 w/ fellow indie consultants)
  • I price my services commensurate with client value

What did you leave behind? And how are you making sure it stays there?
