đź’ˇ Shhh - don't wake the idea

It can be tempting to be precious with your ideas.

Rationale:

What if I’m really on to something?

What if this is my big intellectual break?

I don’t want someone else to run with it.

Maybe I should get it all down first.

Then meet with a publisher.

Or an IP attorney.

Copyright it. License it. Control it.

That’s how you monetize, right?

Result:

You keep it to yourself.

Your brilliant, nascent idea settles in for a nap on a recliner in the attic of your mind.

Not helpful to you.

Much less to others.

Reality:

If you’re in the service business…

Your IP is one part of the package.

You, yourself, are the other.

One of these things is much harder to clone.
