It can be tempting to be precious with your ideas. ​ Rationale: What if I’m really on to something? What if this is my big intellectual break? I don’t want someone else to run with it. Maybe I should get it all down first. Then meet with a publisher. Or an IP attorney. Copyright it. License it. Control it. That’s how you monetize, right? ​ Result: You keep it to yourself. Your brilliant, nascent idea settles in for a nap on a recliner in the attic of your mind. Not helpful to you.
