đź’ˇ Spotted in the wild: A reader's IP

Friend and subscriber Michael Smith owns not one but two subscription-based businesses: a design-as-a-service solo practice and a co-working space outside Philadelphia.

Leveraging his unique position of building two different types of subscription businesses, he organized his accumulated insights on the subscription model into an exploratory framework and shared it on LinkedIn on Monday.

I love Michael’s post because it had the following components:

  • Curated context - he told you just enough about what you needed to know to understand his POV
  • Intentional simplicity - he could’ve double-clicked in any direction, but made the choice to maintain focus, leaving himself the opportunity to return with more detail later
  • Crisp visual - when you think back about his post an hour later, you’ll remember the easy-to-consume visual, which will then serve as your mental reference to help recall the points of his post
  • Feedback CTA - as we’ve been discussing, a cue to your audience that this is new IP can serve as the welcome mat for your audience to engage

Bravo, Michael!

P.S. In addition to his businesses, Michael is also a father of two, a writer of children’s books, and publishes a 100-word musing twice a week which I look forward to and recommend checking out.
