💡 Steering with patience

If you choose to shift from execution to strategy work, it likely won’t be an overnight pivot.

Often, your client will be explicitly looking for execution work.

After all,

  • Someone has to build the website
  • Someone needs to reconcile the books
  • Someone needs to act on the strategy developed

When that’s the case with a particular prospect or continuing client, you won’t get very far offering a strategic service without an execution component.

Don’t despair! Shifting into strategic work is a significant business model shift that takes time.

Over several weeks or months, you can start declining execution work (inbound leads or extensions) and intentionally narrowing new lead gen to clients hungry for a strategic or advisory partner and have other options for executing your recommendations.

Like steering a ship — you can turn the rutter hard to starboard, but it will still take time to shift direction.
