💡 The map through the fog

When I started working with my book midwife, Fen, they sent me a copy of their book all about the process of writing a book.

(Yes, very meta indeed.)

In Fen’s book was this simple POV about the creative process:

It wasn’t included as a scare tactic. Just a peek down the path from someone who’s been through the book-writing process many times.

A warning that, with near certainty, there will be a part of this process where you question it all.

But, that the path does curve back.

Now, when I see something like this, my ego says, “yeah, but I’m not gonna hit that slump. Especially now that I know about it.

And then, almost comically, I walked straight into the well-trodden booby trap as if I’d never been warned at all.

A month or so of writer’s block...

Second guessing...

Temptation to park it for a while...

Or desert it altogether...

Then, using some tips from Fen’s toolbox, I found my way back.

I’m now at that second to last step: “This might be ok…” — coming out of the fog towards the finish line.

And what helped most through that dip into darkness was knowing I’d partnered with someone who knew precisely what I was feeling.

Which led me to further trust the approach to getting out of it.

Having lived this so vividly from the client side, it’s brought the reminder that you can’t shield your clients from everything.

Not all pain is avoidable.

But codifying and sharing what you know as an expert in your domain, especially about what you know will be your clients' darkest spots ahead...

...lays the foundation for deep trust during the sales process, throughout the engagement, and well beyond.

Do you have a map through the fog to share?
