💡 Today should be a holiday

As a kid growing up in the 90’s in Dallas, there was no escaping Dallas Cowboys fever.

Exhibit A: Boy in the oversized jersey on the right.

Even as a bookish non-athlete, it was exciting to have our home team make it to the Super Bowl (and win!) 3 times in 4 years.

Super Bowl Sunday was an all-day ordeal, and the celebrations after the wins went well into the night.

But then, we had to go to school the next day — tired and groggy.

I remember, even as a 10-year-old, thinking:

“When I grow up and run a company, I’ll make ‘Super Bowl Monday a holiday.”

Well, here I am.

Running a (one-person) company.

Still working on the Monday after the Super Bowl.

Go figure.

But the memory mirrors some of the questions I ask all my clients at the beginning of any NicheFinder or IP sprint:

“What are some topics or ideas you get on a soapbox about?”

“Have there been instances with a client or former company where your ideas were repeatedly dismissed?”

“What did they not see that you saw clearly?”

In other words, what was that nagging thing that you continued to voice but hit resistance about?

That you vowed to do differently if ever out on your own

I spend time with clients on this because it’s often a fruitful well for passionate, differentiated points of view.

The type you can build frameworks around.

Frameworks you can design a service around.

A service that speaks to a niche that’s been itching for a novel approach to their stubborn, thorny problem.

What’s your “Super Bowl Monday” idea from your time in corporate?

And who’s stopping you from pushing it now?
