💡 Your minimum acceptable rate, unveiled

We all knew it was true, but now here’s the data.

Corporate employees spend half their time (53%) on busywork, according to new research from Asana.

Meaning only 47% of an employee's time is spent on the skilled and strategic work they were hired to do.

Flashback to your corporate days - does this ring true? Perhaps it was even less?

So what does this mean for independents?

It unveils the bang for their buck that your corporate client is getting when they hire you.

Hiring you is like buying the concentrate version of a watered down juice.

So here’s some easy weekend math for you.

What was your last corporate salary?

Divide that by 1000.

(1000 is half of a 2000-hour work-year)

That’s your new minimum acceptable effective hourly rate as a solo consultant.

Now double it.

To account for speed, on/off optionality, and of course the scarcity of your unique expertise.

That's your new target effective hourly rate that represents your value.

Anything less than that, and you're most likely inefficiently deployed.

Let's change that in the new year!
