Cool moment earlier this week -- I received a hard copy of my client Mark Sherwood-Edward’s new book, The Sales-Side Lawyer. Mark was client #4 of my Intellectual Headshots pilot around this time last year. He had come to me with a trove of witty, contrarian newsletter posts — really brilliant, plain-English takes on legal issues that his typical B2B corporate clients perpetually brush up against. His problem at the time: “They’re all words. No one wants to read all that.” A bit of an exaggeration, I’m sure - his weekly newsletter, Oh, Lawdy!, does net him clients. But Mark knew a visual layer would add some oomph. So we set off to revisit some of his most popular takes and common client pain points and turn them visual. What we created were a set of simplified, humorous, can’t-unsee diagrams, cartoons and frameworks that he then started to use as marketing assets. And now, a year later, those same visuals dot the pages of his new book, a curated compilation of years’ worth of newsletters, which he intends to send out to educate, delight, and attract potential clients. That’s the fun part of getting your expertise out of your head and into something portable, shareable, valuable. It travels. Well beyond your natural reach. It lingers. Well beyond a first conversation. It inspires. Well beyond your initial intent. Congrats on the book, Mark - and thanks for the copy. 💡 -Wes P.S. Final slot for the Narrative Spine X-Ray pilot Have you been spinning your wheels figuring out your consulting lane and your crisp story to take to market? If leads and referrals are slow, then probably so. The formula is straightforward. I broke it down on Wednesday. But it's a super difficult thing to see on your own. The Narrative Spine X-Ray is a 1:1 deep dive on your positioning and the first step for all my visualization clients -- and now, I'm testing it as a standalone. Two of the three pilot spots went quickly. If you're interested in the final spot, book a 20-min fit call tomorrow, and I'll tell you honestly if I think it's the right step for you. It's $450 and we'd start next week. Last call at that pilot price - and I won't have additional capacity for these until June. |
