Still feel like you’re getting lost in a crowded field?

Check out this snapshot of the types of consultants in my LinkedIn inbounds over just the past two days, and tell me what you see:

  • Fractional COO for mission-driven orgs
  • Brand marketing leader
  • Healthcare ethics & compliance consultant
  • Fractional GTM for B2B SaaS startups
  • Brand identity specialist
  • Cybersecurity consultant for women-owned businesses
  • Operations consultant
  • Fractional Shopify ops & strategy consultant
  • Marketing consultant for furniture retailers

I see two things:

  1. Some are more niched than others - that’s ok, it’s a process
  2. There is very little duplication or overlap

This actually surprised me — I would’ve guessed it would be heavily weighted towards marketing generalists.

Instead, there’s an organic spread that gives everyone a roomy lane.

When you think you’re ‘just another [xyz] consultant’ remember your competitive set is a lot smaller than you think…

While your field may be packed with talent in the W2/full-time market...

Only a fraction of that talent has the guts to go it alone.

Only a fraction of those solos serve your vertical.

Only a fraction of those serve your ICP’s company stage and problem.

Only a fraction of those are in your same geography/time zone.

Only a fraction of those have available capacity at any given time.

And only one of those sees things the way you do.
