💡 Notes on podcast guesting

A few notes on podcast-guesting today, as I’ve found it to be one of the highest-leverage activities out there to:

  • Attach a human side to your digital persona
  • Get your message out there in an in-depth format
  • Reach pockets of folks you may not be able to reach on your own

Never been on one before?

Check out #238 💡 2-Hour Task: Podcast appearance kickstart for a short primer on how to start getting yourself invited and prepared.

Getting ready for a podcast interview?

Just last week, I shared how a simple sketch on a notecard kept me on track during a recent appearance.

Got a few episodes under your belt?

Create a public Spotify playlist of your appearances to boost your discoverability.

This takes just a few minutes to set up, and it will be the first thing that pops up when someone types your name into Spotify (how’s that for SEO — ‘Spotify’ Engine Optimization 😂 )

From there, folks doing their diligence on you can take their pick of episodes based on the topic most relevant to them.

Steer clear of the cold invites:

I get an email like this at least once a week, some more convincing than others.

The one I received today even had a shell website spun up on what looks like Lovable, but alas, no podcast to be found:

Short rule of thumb: More than likely you will need to be the one barking up the tree to get booked on something, not vice versa.

And finally, if you’ve been on a podcast recently (or host one yourself), let me know!

Send me a link and a one sentence blurb.

If there are more than a few, I’ll send out a compiled list to your fellow Lightbulbers.
