💡 When 'good enough' is not enough


[Continuing the ”What’s the Point?” conversation from yesterday…]

For some people to do some things, AI tools will enable that them to do-it-themselves.

And the result will be ‘good enough’.

And, yes for that slice of the market, an expert consultant will go the way of the bank teller.

But this only serves to spotlight where you could have been focusing all along.

What are the things that you do better than ‘good enough’?

And who are the people for which ‘good enough’ is not enough?

(Did I say enough enough?)

I know an expert public speaker who helps others write and deliver great talks.

Pretty much anyone can give a ‘good enough’ talk.

And most of them do, without any help.

But for those preparing for a big stage or moment, where ‘good enough’ is not enough…

They hire an expert to help.

Depending on where you live, there are probably at least 5 bakery options within a reasonable distance.

Now, anyone can make a cake from a box themselves. (Trust me.)

And that cake is likely ‘good enough’ for most scenarios.

But if you’re planning a special birthday or a wedding, or any event where ‘good enough’ is not enough…

You hire an expert to help.

As tech advances, the subset of your ICP that leverages DIY tools to do what you do will almost certainly continue to expand.

But perhaps they were probably never in your ICP.

For them, ‘good enough’ was always going to be enough.

Instead, look for the people and contexts where that doesn’t cut it.

The ones with a lot on the line.

The ones who can’t afford to get this wrong.

The people and contexts where instead of ‘good enough’…

They need great, stellar, or expert, or exceptional.

Look for the market position where the need is over that quality line.

Those are “good enough” clients for you.
